Set in a pristine patch of woodland, Go Ape challenges you to whiz down zip lines, fly through the air on swings and test your equilibrium on balance beams.

What if you prefer a more tranquil outdoor experience? There are nature walks that wind through verdant forest and cross the scenic shores of a reservoir.

But while you’re out there enjoying the wilds, remember to keep an eye out for boggarts. Local legend dictates that these mischievous creatures often live under bridges, or in holes in the ground. Any unfortunate soul who happens upon a boggart will likely never be heard from again.

Go Ape Rivington is only a 10 minute drive from the hotel.

SING FOR YOUR CIDER

Your search for authentic ales and classic ciders ends at The Ale House.

A traditional pub with a contemporary vibe, they specialise in cask ales drawn from hand pumps.

Do you lean towards ciders, but haven’t committed to a favourite? Try a sampler. Three third-size pours are presented on a tasting paddle.

If you wish the ciders to be as tasty on your return visit, try singing to a few trees on the way home. Sounds silly? Well, it was certainly serious business in England for centuries. Practising the ancient tradition of wassailing, locals would visit orchards that produce cider to offer songs and incantations meant to ensure a good harvest.

The Ale house is located at 36 Church Street, Horwich, just 10 minutes by car from the hotel.

Chill Factor^e

Chill Factor^e is home to the UK’s longest indoor ski slope and is situated near to the Trafford Centre, in the Trafford Park area of Manchester. The centre opened in November 2007.

Ski or snowboard, race your friends on sledges, try the ice slide, go tubing or play in the snow!

The complex is also home to many restaurants and shops to enjoy ‘apres-ski’. Just a 20 minute drive from Mercure Bolton Georgian House Hotel!
